The 5th Annual THRIVE Student Conference and Opportunity Fair will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2024. Back to where it all started, the conference will be held at Middlesex College in Edison, NJ. We believe that inspired and motivated young people have the power to create change in their lives by working to change the world – because no one can THRIVE unless we take action to ensure everyone can!

The THRIVE Student Conference features a wide range of opportunities for students to connect and learn from one another about their experiences with volunteering, community engagement and service learning, civic leadership, and more. But that’s just step one – the Opportunity Fair provides an interactive space for students to learn from and work with professionals to develop their skills, interests, and pathways to meaningful careers.

THE EVENT
Become part of one of NJ’s largest networks of students.
The Annual THRIVE Student Conference and Opportunity Fair provides a platform for college students and young people to come together and explore opportunities to make a positive impact in their communities. The event showcases the passion and creativity of the next generation of leaders and encourages them to pursue their goals with determination and purpose.

THEMES TO BE ADDRESSED AT THE STUDENT CONFERENCE
Solutions to reduce food insecurity – such as food pantries, mutual aid, and available government programs, solutions that might be found on campus or in communities, etc.
Racial Justice – an explanation of racial justice, racial justice in the workspace, learning how anti-racist behaviors are beneficial in and out of the workspace, finding careers in advocacy, etc.
Taking action to fight Climate Change – projects you are involved in, political action in legislature, efforts being made in New Jersey’s new K-12 climate change education standards, etc.
Political awareness – rights and responsibilities we have as citizens, how legislation affects professional work, how to appropriately use freedom of speech in and out of the workplace, etc.
LGBTQ+ Justice - an explanation of LGBTQ+ justice, how legislation can affect individuals’ careers, finding careers in advocacy, etc.
Building your career pathway through community engagement - how you developed your interests, connections, networks, and skills for possible future careers because of your community engagement activities

Using Experience - Learn how prior work, volunteer, or extracurricular experience can be easily turned into elevator pitches, resume builders, or interview responses.
Self-Presentation - Learn why networking, social media presence, dressing to impress, and knowing business talk are important – and how to balance all this with personal expression.
Student Opportunities for Success (SOS) - Learn about Engage NJ’s database for scholarships, grants, internships, education awards, and more.
Finding Career Pathways - Learn about how various professionals have explored different paths and experiences to lead them to the job they love.
Personal and Practical Benefits - Learn about loan forgiveness programs for certain careers, how to find happiness in your job, and about other opportunities and benefits in both nonprofit and corporate fields.
Service Career Pathways - Learn about service careers and education awards – with AmeriCorps VISTA, Engage NJ ENGAGECorps, and the PeaceCorps.

Public Service Leadership - Learn about local and state government leadership jobs, meet the officials in these positions, discover the skills required for these positions, and brainstorm ways to build your resume for this career path
